The population of Oakwood is approximately 4,000 residents and it is located in Hall County. It was first settled in the mid-1800s but didn’t attract much growth until the arrival of the railroad in 1873. With increased commerce came development, and the town quickly emerged as a fine place to live and work. With urban expansion in the 20th century, Oakwood is an attractive place for businesses and residents to live. Oakwood is bordered by Gainesville in the north, Alandale and Flowery Branch in the east, Flowery Branch in the south and Lake Lanier in the west. I-985 is the major road that serves Oakwood residents, as does Route 13, route 332 and Highway 53. Oakwood is just 8 miles south of Gainesville, 22 miles north of Lawrenceville and 40 miles northeast of Atlanta. Residents of Oakwood have an opportunity for work, recreation, education or entertainment in every direction.
